Witness at hoops trial paid footballers

NEW YORK (AP) A key prosecution witness at a trial highlighting corruption in college basketball testified for a second day Wednesday about money he paid to college football players to secure them as clients as he described how vulnerable young athletes become prey for vulture-like agents and managers.

Testimony by Louis Martin Blazer also presented an increasingly sinister angle on bribes paid to college basketball coaches, suggesting that the practice was more widespread than previously described in Manhattan federal court.

Blazer, 49, answered questions from Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Boone in the trial of aspiring agent Christian Dawkins and former amateur coach Merl Code. Three former assistant basketball coaches set to stand trial with them recently pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

Kansas extends Adidas deal through 2031

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The University of Kansas and Adidas announced Wednesday an extension of their contract through 2031, despite an FBI investigation centered on the footwear and apparel company that cast a negative light on the Jayhawks' athletic programs.

The Jayhawks have worn Adidas gear since 2005. The original eight-year agreement was extended by six years through 2019, then another extension was put on hold last fall amid the investigation. The new deal is worth $14 million annually.

Atlanta selected to host 2020 Final Four

ATLANTA (AP) The return of the Final Four to Atlanta in 2020 also will bring the Division II and III championships back to the city.

Atlanta hosted all three championships in 2013, the last time it was the site of the Final Four. It's the only other year all three divisions held their championship games in the same city.

Illinois lands Jamaican big man Cockburn

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) Illinois has signed prized big man Kofi Cockburn to a national letter of intent.

The Fighting Illini announced Wednesday the addition of the 7-foot, 290-pounder from Kingston, Jamaica - the highest rated post player to join the program since Meyers Leonard in 2010.

Michigan State adds F Marble

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Michigan State has added a third player to its basketball recruiting class.

Julius Marble signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play for coach Tom Izzo next season. The 6-foot-8 forward will be a relatively unheralded freshman along with highly touted guard Mark Watts and forward Malik Hall on a talented and experienced team .

Minnesota signs German F Ihnen

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Minnesota has signed Isaiah Ihnen, a 6-foot-9 forward from Germany, to a national letter of intent.

The Gophers on Wednesday announced the addition of Ihnen to their 2019 recruiting class, joining guard Tre' Williams and center Sam Freeman. Guards Marcus Carr and Payton Willis, both transfers who sat out last season, also will join the team on the court for the first time this fall.

New LSU AD throwing support behind Wade

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) New LSU athletic director Scott Woodward began his tenure at his alma mater by asserting he would throw "100 percent support" behind recently reinstated basketball coach Will Wade - unless he's presented with new information that forces him to reconsider.

"I have not met with Will," Woodward said during his formal introduction as LSU's top athletics official on Tuesday afternoon. "We've seen each other in group meetings. I need to be briefed and I need to find out what's going on. Coach Wade is LSU's coach and until then he's going to have my 100 percent support."

Michigan G Poole to stay in NBA draft

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Michigan says guard Jordan Poole is staying in the NBA draft.

The school announced earlier this month that Poole, Charles Matthews and Iggy Brazdeikis were declaring for the draft, although they still had the option of coming back to the Wolverines. Since then, Matthews has announced that he would indeed be leaving school, and now Poole is departing as well.

Ex-Florida F Stone transferring to Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) Former University of Florida forward Keith Stone is transferring to the University of Miami for his senior season.

The 6-foot-8 Stone, a South Florida native, expects to graduate this summer and will be eligible to play for the Hurricanes in 2019-20.

Ex-Kansas G Moore transfers to DePaul

CHICAGO (AP) Former Kansas guard Charlie Moore is returning home to Chicago to play for DePaul.

Coach Dave Leitao announced the move Tuesday, making DePaul Moore's third school. He began his career at California and played one season at Kansas.
