BC looks to stay hot at home vs. South Florida

Boston College looks to stay unbeaten at home as it welcomes nonconference opponent South Florida on Monday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

DeMarr Langford Jr. recorded a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Eagles in a 73-60 home win over Columbia on Saturday. BC (4-3) never trailed and led by as many as 14 points in a relatively uncompetitive second half against the Lions.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Eagles, who improved to 4-0 at home.

"We are in pursuit of trying to be a good team. There's going to be a lot of things to come with that. Ups and downs, good days, bad days," first-year BC coach Earl Grant said earlier this season.

Langford is averaging a team-leading 12.6 points per game for BC. Jaeden Zackery finished with 14 points against Columbia after leading the team with career highs of 15 and 19 points, respectively, in the Eagles' prior two games.

South Florida (3-2) will be looking to win consecutive games for the first time this season after holding off Hampton in a 58-52 home win on Wednesday.

Caleb Murphy scored 12 points, Javon Greene had 10 and six steals and Jamir Chaplin added seven points and seven rebounds to pace the Bulls.

Hampton led 51-50 with 2:38 remaining before Greene's 3-pointer 23 seconds later put South Florida on top for good.

"We're ahead of the curve defensively on where we thought we'd be, and I'm pleased with that. Now the offense has to come along," Bulls coach Brian Gregory said.

South Florida is averaging just 56.4 points through five games, with a single-game high of 75. Murphy is the only player averaging double figures in scoring for the Bulls with 12.0 points per game.

The Bulls dropped their only prior meeting with the Eagles, losing 74-60 on Nov. 10, 2019 in Tampa, Fla.
