(TSX / STATS) -- NEW YORK -- Kari Lehtonen became the 33rd goalie in NHL history to record 300 career wins Wednesday night, when he carried a shutout into the third period and recorded 32 saves as the Dallas Stars cruised past the New York Islanders, 5-2 at Barclays Center.

The win capped a milestone-filled night for Lehtonen and a notable two-night span for the veteran goalie. Lehtonen's appearance was the 624th of his career, breaking a tie with Miikka Kiprusoff for the most games played by a Finnish-born goaltender.

Lehtonen is also the second goalie in as many nights to reach 300 career wins. Carolina Hurricanes netminder Cam Ward recorded his 300th victory in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Ward and Lehtonen are the fifth and sixth active goalies with 300 wins.
